Aikido of Westchester is a studio that specializes in Japanese martial arts and swordsmanship. They teach self-defense, discipline and mind-body training applying Aikido principles. This training is believed to build self-confidence, and self-esteem. The fee for teens is $70 per month.

Membership fees are $23 for 12-16 year olds and $29 for 17-23 year olds per month for teens. The fee provides access to a variety of programs and classes at the YWCA. They offer swimming programs, workout and fitness programs, and golf and hip-hop dance classes specifically for teenagers. They also co-sponsor the Youth and Government Program with the High School which is designed to encourage and strengthen leadership skills. Rates and class offerings are subject to change. The membership fee for teens is $45 per year. The YWCA offers a variety of different programs for their members. Their programs that are specifically targeted for teens are swimming, gymnastics, yoga, water polo, sailing, martial arts, and fitness. They also offer a life-guarding course for $350 to non-members. In addition, they have a girl's empowerment group called GEMS. It assists teen girls in developing cultural awareness, and college and career paths. There are no requirements -any young woman can join. Rates and class offerings are subject to change. Please contact the YWCA for details.

The Department of Recreation and Parks provide recreational activities for city residents of all ages. Check out the following activities available for teenagers:

WINTER ACTIVITIES
Basketball Open Gym At Post Road School on Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 PM. School ID required.
Swimming Instructions WPHS pool on Saturdays beginning January for a total of 8 sessions. Classes for all levels. Registration required: $75.
Open Session Ice Skating Ebersole Ice Rink, Friday nights from 8 -10 PM. Session on Saturday from 12-4 PM and Sunday 1-4 PM. $3.
Skiing Day Trips Trips to mountains within 3 hour driving distance, Saturday December to March.

TEENS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Expressive Arts/Enrichment Learn basic art skills through playing games, socialization & music enrichment.
Special Olympics Gym/Swim Special Olympics training and other organized gym activities.
Special Olympics Bowling At the White Plains Bowl AMF on Saturdays from 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM.

For all seasonal activities, you MUST have a Recreation ID Card. You can get your card at the Recreation office for $3. Fees for activities vary.

The City of White Plains Youth Bureau is committed to providing programs that foster positive youth development. The Youth Bureau is composed of 5 departments; After School Services, Project Hope, Neighborhood Services, Youth Employment Services and Alternatives. These are some of the activities that are offered free of charge at the Youth Bureau. Registration required for participation.
